Hello from Jon at Massage Marketing! I hope your year has gotten off to a good start.
How’s your practice doing? It looks like for the immediate future, we’re all faced with doing business in a shaky economy. If your practice is as busy as you could hope for, keep doing the same things that you’ve been doing. But be prepared to make adjustments to your marketing plans if things start to slow down.
Most therapists I’ve spoken with recently say that business remains slow, with many clients scheduling less frequently due to their financial situations. Since you’d like to be delivering more massages to your clients, and they would prefer to continue receiving their massages, the main question right now is how to make this happen.
So, what can you do now to boost your business? The first thing to consider is what steps you can take to increase appointments with your existing clients. You can assume that most of them already wish they could be getting massage more frequently.
With tight budgets being the rule of the day, you need to decide whether you’re willing to do some creative marketing to get these folks back on your table more often. For instance, if you’ve been getting $60 an hour, would you be willing to offer your services to some of your loyal clients for $45-50 an hour—if they came to see you every month? In other words, is it feasible for you to accept less per hour in these tough times for a guaranteed number of visits?
If so, you could test the waters by calling a few of your clients and discussing such an offer, letting them know you really want to find a way to continue helping them regularly—to come up with a plan where you can both benefit.
Or what about offering a referral special—maybe $45 per massage (for both your client and their referral) when a client refers a friend and they both schedule in the same week? Each therapist’s situation is different, so you have to weigh the options and pursue a plan that works for you.
What about getting more new clients? Bringing in new business can breathe new life and energy into your practice. What have you done in the past to attract new clients? Do you have opportunities to speak to local groups, man a booth at a health fair, do some chair massages at an event, etc.? Review all of the ways you have brought in new clients in the past and see which options have worked best for you.
The bottom line is you need to contact enough people to fill your schedule and to provide a compelling reason for them to set their appointments. One vital element to your success is educating your public on the many benefits your services offer them. They are so much more likely to see you when they understand the value of massage to their health and well-being.
